I have compiled a list of all the useful settings I have read about.<\/p>\n<h3>Preparation:<br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #444444; line-height: 24px;\">Switch the camera to\u00a0<strong>&#8220;M&#8221;-mode<\/strong>, this gives you access to all advanced settings.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Set\u00a0<strong>RAW<\/strong> or the\u00a0<strong>highest quality JPEG<\/strong> as the image format (or both). If you use RAW, you can potentially improve the images considerably in the post-processing phase. Of course this requires that you know what you are doing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-267\" title=\"Menu1\" src=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-268\" title=\"Menu2\" src=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Choose <strong>Parameter 2<\/strong> instead of the default Parameter 1. This reduces the amount of in-camera sharpening and color enhancement, which will give better results in the post-processing phase.<\/p>\n<p>Set the white balance to <strong>Tungsten<\/strong> if you are going to do long exposure of the night sky. This usually gives a better sky background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-269\" title=\"Menu3\" src=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-270\" title=\"Menu4\" src=\"http:\/\/dianajuncher.dk\/astrophoto\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/menu4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turn off the\u00a0<strong>review<\/strong>. Otherwise you will loose your night vision when the LCD lights up after every exposure. It is also a good idea to set the\u00a0<strong>LCD brightness<\/strong> at its minimum. This way you will not get totally blinded when you once in a while need to check your exposures or focus.<\/p>\n<p>Turn off <strong>auto rotation<\/strong>. Post-processing can get tricky if the camera has rotated some of the images to what it thinks is vertical orientation.<\/p>\n<p>Set the\u00a0<strong>shutter speed<\/strong> to bulb, so you can take as long exposures as you want.<\/p>\n<h3>When taking photos:<br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #444444; line-height: 24px;\">After you have set the focal length, adjust the <strong>aperture<\/strong> so that the hole is a big as possible (smallest f-stop).<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Remember to use larger <strong>ISO<\/strong> speeds than normal.<\/p>\n<p>When you have <strong>focused<\/strong> on an object, make sure to switch to manual focus so that it stays there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are a number of camera settings that needs to be activated, deactivated or just adjusted, if you want to take decent astrophotos.
