Two new jobs

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I have been working as a sort of freelance webmaster at the Dark Cosmology Centre for a couple of years now. But as the amount of work varies a lot and I like to spend money, I have been on the lookout for an additional job for some time. A couple of weeks ago two job opportunities suddenly presented themselves to me and I accepted them both without hesitation. So now I suddenly find myself having three jobs.

The first of my new jobs is just an ordinary secretary-like adminstrative job at the Dark Cosmology Centre.

The second one is much more interesting. The Niels Bohr Institue (NBI) is about to launch an almanac on their home page with daily updates about when the Sun and Moon rise/set and what you can see on the night sky. They needed a student to write these daily updates and asked me if I wanted to do it (they had apparently heard good stuff about me :) ). I like that job. I get to write about astronomy and I can – within reasonable limits – write what I want. Also, a part of what I write will be broadcasted on huge plasma screens all over NBI.

Birthday birthday

Today is my 26th birthday – time moves fast!

Using 26 candles on the birthday cake seemed like a dangerous project (after all, I am me) so my original plan was to combine a 2-candle and a 6-candle. But as the local super market only had candles with the numbers 0-5 on them that was a no-go. Luckily plan B turned out to be much more fun as you can see. Best birthday cake ever! :)

BSc in Physics

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

My last exam is over – I now hold a university degree: bachelor in physics! Hurray! :)

Right after the exam Rasmus took me out for ice cream to celebrate. Sitting in the sun at “Sankt Hans Torv” with a huge ice cream, my boyfriend and a fresh bachelor degree I was feeling pretty happy. Tonight we will hook up with my parents and find a good restaurant in order to celebrate even more.

As I have completely failed to get a summer job I now have a couple of months of vacation to look forward to – way to go me!

In September I will return to the university. I have already signed up for my first master science courses: “General Realtivity and Cosmology” and “Astrobiology”; sounds pretty good, right? And if all goes well I will have a MSc in astronomy in just two years.

Today I taped bacon to the cat

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Well, the title says it all, doesn’t it?

I am not the first one to do it, but I think it is worthy of a trend. Why? Because it’s fun! And the cat likes it! ;)

New toys

As my old Macbook is now officially dead I have bought a new Macbook:

Who can worry about SU and sensible economy when tempted by that beauty?

They have finally upgraded the graphics card and the touch-pad has grown big and swallowed the only click-able button. One might write a funny joke about Steve Jobs and how he went from no right-click button to no buttons at all, but to be fair it works really well.

As a bonus I have put the hard disk from my old Macbook in a new dashing pink casing. It’s so cute and it fits right into my handbag. ;)
